Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare was, to me, just another game I received with Playstation Plus. Something I probably wasn’t going to ever play, but that I might as well download. I’d not heard much about it at release, no real word of mouth afterwards and so I didn’t have any expectations when I eventually came around to give it a try. But what I found was a very fun, very addictive game with a hell of a lot of depth.
You can customise your characters to give them a unique look
In terms of modes, the game is a little light. All the campaign amounts to is a horde mode type of game, where you face ever-increasing waves of zombies. But the real highlight is the competitive multiplayer. What you have online is a little bit of Call of Duty, in terms of the mechanics of combat, but with added RTS elements. You can put down various types of defensive plant pots or attacking zombies depending on your side. Also depending on your class you can build defenses, teleporters, heal stations and various other additions to help out your team.
While in the game you also have challenges to complete that will help you level up. These are really rewarding and add a lot of variation to the game play. At one point you might be trying to kill two plants in a row with your drone, and other times you might be focusing on healing 3 players in a round.
Each class has its own particular play style. Chompers are used in close quarters and can suck up opponents from under the ground, while the likes of the sunflower is more likely tosit back and provide covering fire while also maintaining the heal stations.
The scientist has a fast firing shotgun type weapon and the ability to teleport in close. Very effective
When you complete games you earn coin bonuses that can be used to open packs in the main menu. In these packs you’ll find new characters, weapons, emotives and powers. This gives you that sticker book type of addiction as you way up what packs give you the most chance of unlocking that game changing weapon or character.
If you got it free on Playstation Plus then give it a try, you’ll be pleasantly surprised. If not, It’s around £15 which is definitely money well spent as you’ll sink loads of hours into it. If you try it or already have tried it, let me know what you think in the comments down below.
