If you’re like me, you’ll probably have dozens of unplayed indie games that come free with Playstation Plus every month. With 3 or 4 new additions each month, who has time to play them all? Well with the latest batch of free indie games comes one of the most fun online multiplayer experiences out there.
Rocket League is a crazy, fun, relentless vehicle/football hybrid. With up to 8 players, you battle it out, crashing and smashing your way, as you and your teammates try to direct a giant football into the goal. It’s simplistic and intuitive fun. You can play defense and try to make those crucial saves or blast forward and try to score that winning goal. Alternatively, you can have massive fun ignoring the ball completely and focussing all you energy into destroying the opponents truck and temporary removing them from the game. Either way you play you are rewarded equally, leading to players adopting different roles naturally.
You can play 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 or 4v4 and each mode has its attractions. The vehicles themselves are customisable allowing you to attach different paints, flags, tyres and even cool little extras like a halo.
Occasionally there is a bit of lag, which can completely ruin your timing for shots and blocks and therefore destroy the game, but luckily those games a few and far between. The story mode is a bit lacking as well, but that’s not the attraction point of the game.
If you have 5 or 10 minutes to burn and looking for fast, explosive fun then this game if definitely for you. Check it out and let me know what you think.
